Cryptic Gamer is introducing Rent-a-Shed
I recently played around with the idea of allowing other players to use my buildings at a reasonable 3 Gold per minute fee. Out of that came Rent a Shed.
Who is this for?
I care about the little guy. I care about the nomad whose only income is running transportation jobs and odd jobs. And the players renting lots with some resources but no infrastructure.
I am not using my buildings full time, I would maybe produce for a few hours and use the rest to try and sell. So I figured, why not start building a system where I can earn from my buildings without depleting my resources.
I also care about the Prospectors world. A system like this would tempt the little guy to also buy resources that they otherwise have no use for in the market. In order to manufacture goods for themselves or the marketplace.
How does it work?
To put simply, I provide the building, you provide both the labor and the resources.
The transaction would work as follows:
A) You contact me to say what you want to manufacture
B) I respond with the resources that I want you to give me along with the PGL amount for your order.
C) If you are happy, I will ask you to drop the resources off on one of my prospectors in the building where you need to manufacture.
D) Once I have the resources, I create the order at a 0.01 Gold rate for you to fill.
E) Once the Labor is complete, I give you whatever you manufactured.
It is that simple.
A quick example – Steel Bars
Lets say you want to make steel bars, it would look as follows:
AwesomePlayer: Hey, I would like to make 75 steel bars
Upclassgames: Okay sure, I will cost you 0.9 PGL (900 Gold) to use the Iron Furnace for 300 minutes.
Upclassgames: You would also need to deliver 150KG ore, 75KG coal and 75KG clay to my worker Meliodas. It is quite a lot, so send me the ore first, and once I mark it as received, you can drop the clay and coal.
AwesomePlayer: Cool, I just paid the 0.9 PGL and transfered the resources to meliodas
Upclassgames: Well received, I created an order for 75 steel bars at 0.01 Gold per minute, once that job has been filled I will give you your steel bars.
AwesomePlayer: I set my prospector – AwesomeProspector on that job and it should be done in 5 hours.
Upclassgames: I happen to have some steel bars now. So I moved the 75 steel bars to your worker so that we do not need to worry about that later on.
AwesomePlayer: Thank you.
What would the financial implications of the above scenario look like to a Nomad?
Assessing using the prospectors marketplace at the time of writing,
Your input will be:
|Use of Furnace||900|
|75KG Clay @ 129 Gold per KG||9675|
|75 KG Coal @ 110 Gold per KG||8250|
|150 KG Ore @ 70 Gole per KG||10500|
So this means a Nomad player could essentially get 75 Steel pars manufactured for:
29 325 Gold
At the time of writing players have buy orders up for 420 Gold per bar.
So 31500 Gold that you could get immediately. Now that is not much,
But it shows you could get your money out at minimum.
Then as a nomad player you could ask, What if I mine my own resources?
What if I try and buy it cheaper from another player, offer them 110 Gold per KG for Clay instead of 129 Gold per KG.
Or better yet what if I used these bars and I make my own tools?
Now I can run a lot of numbers here, and I can assure you that if you applied strategy you could run a whole enterprise out of a wagon. A wagon that you could now manufacture yourself. but that gets a bit more complex. And hopefully some of the players reading this will understand where I am going.
Ultimately you could rent a lot just for buying and selling. And you could use Our Infrastructure to process your raws and materials and grow value that way.
Why can you trust me?
The short answer is, you cannot, in a game like prospectors you cannot trust anyone.
But what I can say is, I really care about the future of Prospectors.
I own a lot of in game assets. The better Prospectors does, the better I will also do.
So I am working on systems of mutual benefit. Where I do gain some, but those doing business with me also gain.
This will also hopefully stimulate the economy, because what if I told a person, you could build your own wagon for a third of the price with the drawback that it will take a few hours longer. Or that you could build your own tools at 300 Gold a tool as long as you provide the labor and materials yourself?
The implications of this on the economy is, Players at the mercy of the larger players will have a different avenue. Sales on large overpriced items will likely decline, but the raw material market will saturate. This would allow players to run an enterprise out of a wagon. Having a whole system to use.
I am a big player, does that mean I lose out in the long term? Not really. I would like to see the little guy earn more and the bigger players earn less. What this would do is keep a lot more players happy. And if players are happy, they remain in the Prospectors world. If this goes on long enough. Then it will be good for PGL, this will mean that even if it takes away from me now. I know I would see returns if PGL does well, and I was also forced to ask, How will I earn if I run out of materials and mineable Gold.
